Rangers 64 A-1 Challenge 51: A second look!
AUGUST 5th 2011- SECOND last game at the YMCA court provided thrills and excitement for the fans. But no victory for team A-1 Challenge. What went wrong? Actually, there were good points to be taken from this contest. The final ten minutes however gave coach Hamza Nyambogo and his A-1 Challenge club, a lat of notice on what must be corrected.
First off, it is unfair to say that A-1 Challenge simply blew the game or just let it slip away. Give KIU Rangers credit. They entered the final quarter down 35-27 to a team that defeated them twice last season. Pulling this one out and exiting the crowd with a W was no easy task.
The Rangers saw their free-throw shooting come alive and their defense do the same. Team A-1 Challenge were the opposite on both ends. Coach Nyambogo made a very good point noting, "when you defend your offense is sharper. When your defense is poor you start standing around and stagnating on offense." In that final quarter the team epitomized what the coach was discussing. Their defense became a fouling drill and the offense nonexistent.
A-1 Challenge point guard and mentor Olivia Mulwana also pointed out a rethinking of the rotation is in order. She felt the call should have gone out to a few younger players earlier to keep the veteran' legs fresh for the stretch. Especially in this situation, playing for points into the playoffs.
Score: 64-51 KIU Rangers
LEAGUE, ROUND 2.
Hey....i know its been a while...but hope this post finds you in perfect health.
The team was on a break and resumed their hunt for the No.1 Playoff spot and championship last Friday 30th July at Ymca when the team lost to defending champions KCC Leopards.
This loss was an eye opener to the team that this journey will not come easy and we have to work hard for every win.
The team however, are excited to have Olivia Mulwana and Elizabeth Kizza back from their long maternity break. The new mothers took to the court with all fight and opponents definitely felt their presence.I must say these two ladies are two tough cookies who have been dearly missed by the team and it is great to have them back.Their contribution to the team is very valuable.
WELCOME BACK LIZ AND TWIST.....we cant wait to see Ella Ziva and Tamara cheering mommy on the sideline.......WE LOVE YOU!!!!
INSECURITY IN UGANDA
On the fate-full night of 11.6.2010,during the football world cup finals, 2 bomb blasts occurred in Kampala,Uganda. One at Kyadondo Rugby Club and an Ethiopian restaurant.Over 70 lives were lost and several injured.
Some of you may have lost loved ones, family, friends, colleagues, or even a friend of a friend or family of a friend. We mourn with you, may the souls of the deceased Rest in Eternal Peace, and we pray for those injured or hurt that they may be healed and quickly recover from their injuries. We also pray that God may grant you peace and comfort to get through this trying time.
We thank God for our lives and for the lives of family and friends whose lives were spared during this horrific incident. Some escaped unharmed and others may have got minor injuries.Nonetheless we give all the glory to God and we Thank him for our lives and good health.
Finally we would like to caution team members, fans, friends and family or anyone else reading this. If you are in Uganda especially Kampala, please be safe. This nightmare is not over, security forces continue to find evidence of terrorist activity in and around our city. Safety starts with oneself, be alert, avoid crowded areas and be wary of strangers around you wherever you are, be it at school, your workplace, public transportation, etc.
Lastly lets continue to pray for the souls of the deceased and also that God may continue to bless us and watch over our motherland.
FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY.
Unbeaten run......
A1 CHALLENGE completed the first round of the MTN FUBA Basketball League,Women's Division unbeaten and now top the table with maximum points from 10games. The ladies are back in the gym preparing for an even tougher 2nd round and will hope to continue with this un-beaten ran till the playoffs....Best of luck n remember, HARD WORK PAYS!!!!!!!!!
Read more...DEFENCE IS THE NAME OF THE GAME!!!!
A1 CHALLENGE Head Team Coach Hamza Nyambogo has cautioned his team that only Defence will win the championship and therefore will not compromise in that area.
The addition of Jeff Mwaniki to the teams coaching staff as Defensive coach goes to show that this is a team that is ready to go the extra mile to win this championship.
There's a saying, "A good attack wins games, but a good defense wins championships." That's a very common statement when describing the most successful teams in basketball - at all levels of play.
A1 steps up to the CHALLENGE!!!!!
A1 CHALLENGE veteran player Namayega Josephine once again tormented UCU Lady Canons with a 3 point shot with only 6seconds left in the game to put A1 the lead by 2points.As the fans and bench went crazy.....the rest was history as A1 CHALLENGE won the game 62-64.
Although the season is far from over, this win should put A1 in a favorable position to finish 1st in the table standings and the number one playoff spot.
